Ampfield Golf Club Wedding: Embracing the Mood at All Saints Hursley & Ampfield Golf Club
VasPhotography • February 21, 2026
There is a particular kind of romanticism that only a spring day in Hampshire can provide. As I arrived in Hursley, the sky had turned a soft, cinematic grey, making the historic stone of All Saints Church glow with a deeper, more heritage feel.
For me, this wasn’t about “bad weather”—it was about capturing a masterclass in grace. Imogen & Jake didn’t just endure the elements; they embraced them, and the result was a gallery that feels more like a filmic editorial than a traditional wedding album.
The Church
The Sacred Grandeur of All Saints
Hursley is a village that feels untouched by time, and All Saints—a Victorian Gothic masterpiece—served as my dramatic stage for the morning.
I found myself working with a moody, shifting sky. One moment, I was chasing an ethereal glow as the sun broke through the clouds; the next, I was leaning into the dramatic, cool tones of the Hampshire mist. This intermittent light was a gift. As the sun dipped in and out, I used the play of shadows across the masonry to highlight the incredible textures of the bride’s lace and the sharp, grosgrain lapels of the groom’s navy tuxedo.
Watching them emerge through the lychgate under a shower of confetti was a quintessential English moment—one of those scenes that reminds me why I love being a photographer in this corner of the world.

Mastering the Elements at Ampfield
As we made the short drive to Ampfield Golf & Country Club, the clouds finally broke. While rain can often be a source of stress, for this session, it became the defining “mood.”

The Art of the Romantic Mist
I’ve always believed there is something incredibly intimate about a couple shared under a single umbrella. We moved quickly, leaning into the weather to capture a series of romantic portraits on the edge of the greens. I loved how the rain added a layer of texture—a glistening sheen on the path and a soft mist in the distance—that made the couple’s timeless style truly stand out against the verdant landscape.

Finding the Editorial Edge Indoors
When the rain intensified, we headed inside to find some character within the clubhouse. I’m always looking for “hidden” light, and we discovered a quiet corner with beautiful exposed brickwork and warm, low-level tones.
By utilizing these shadows, I was able to create a series of “Vogue-style” portraits. The contrast between the delicate lace and that industrial-meets-classic brick backdrop turned our contingency plan into my favorite part of the day. It’s proof that a great gallery isn’t about the view outside—it’s about the pockets of soul we find when we look closely at the light indoors.

A Warm Sanctuary to Finish the Night
Stepping into the reception provided the perfect sensory resolution to the day. While the landscape outside stayed cool and rainy, the interior felt like a warm, private sanctuary.
The fairy lights were the masterstroke of the evening. I watched how they caught the reflections of the rain on the glass, creating a golden, shimmering atmosphere that felt incredibly exclusive. I used that amber glow as my primary light source for the first dance, letting it illuminate the champagne flutes and the smiles of their guests with a painterly warmth.
It was the perfect end to a day I won’t soon forget—a journey from the historic, moody grandeur of Hursley to the modern, light-filled sanctuary of Ampfield.
