As a wedding photographer based in Hampshire, I’ve had the privilege of capturing all kinds of weddings—big, small, and everything in between. But there’s something truly special about intimate ceremonies, like the one I photographed last week at Southampton Registry Office.
The Registry Office Ceremony
The day began at the charming Southampton Registry Office,
where the couple exchanged vows in front of their closest friends and family. The atmosphere was warm and full of love, despite the chilly winter air outside. My goal was to blend into the background, capturing candid moments as they unfolded naturally.
One of my favorite parts of the day was photographing the raw emotions as guests congratulated the couple after the ceremony. Those unscripted moments—laughter, hugs, and a few happy tears—are what make wedding photography so rewarding.
The 40-Minute Challenge
Registry Office to Outdoor Photoshoot
After the ceremony, we had just 40 minutes to capture the couple’s portraits in two locations. Time was tight, but with a bit of direction and a lot of spontaneity, we made it work.
Our first stop was a quick outdoor photoshoot near the registry office. The cold weather was a challenge—I could see the couple shivering between shots—but their smiles never wavered. We focused on creating natural, timeless images that reflected their love and joy.

Celebrating with Friends Over a Nice Meal
The final part of the day took us to a cozy spot where the couple and their friends shared a meal together. It was a relaxed and intimate celebration, perfect for candid shots of laughter and conversation. These moments reminded me why I love photographing small weddings—they’re personal, heartfelt, and full of genuine connections.
