Traditional Church Wedding in Winchester

Kirsten & Andy’s Rainy-Day Love Story

When Kirsten and Andy invited me to photograph their wedding at Sparsholt Church, just outside Winchester, I knew the day would be full of meaning. The church’s calm atmosphere and timeless character made a beautiful setting for a celebration centred on family, friendship and the promises they were making to one another.

A church filled with love

The morning was full of anticipation beneath a grey Winchester sky. Inside Sparsholt Church, though, the atmosphere was warm and joyful. Guests settled into the pews, and when Kirsten began her walk down the aisle, the room grew quiet. Andy’s expression said everything: love, awe and the happiness of seeing his person arrive.

Their ceremony was heartfelt and elegant. Beneath the church’s historic arches, they exchanged vows surrounded by the people closest to them. I stayed quietly at the edges, looking for the small, honest moments—the tender glances, a nervous laugh, and the joy that passed between them.

A reception at home

After the ceremony, everyone gathered in a beautifully dressed marquee on Kirsten and Andy’s own land. Soft lights and greenery gave the space a welcoming glow, while the open setting made room for long conversations, heartfelt toasts and a lively dance floor. It felt personal in the loveliest way: a celebration shaped around the couple and the people who know them best.

Finding the moments between the showers

The British summer had its own plans, with showers coming and going throughout the day. Kirsten and Andy took it all in their stride and trusted me to find the right moments for portraits. We made the most of each break in the weather, keeping things relaxed and letting the day unfold naturally.

One of my favourite photographs came just after a light drizzle passed. The air had softened, the couple had a quiet moment together, and the clearing sky felt like a little pause in the celebration. Their day was never about perfect weather; it was about being together, and that warmth shines through every frame.

A few words from Kirsten and Andy

“We used Vas for our wedding in July 2024, and he provided 5-star service, which we cannot be more appreciative of. He went above and beyond to capture all our special moments and caused no extra stress or worry. We didn’t have the nicest weather, so we couldn’t get all the pictures we necessarily were thinking we were going to get. But Vas gave us great advice on what would work, and we ended up with the most beautiful pictures captured, which we will cherish forever. He is very professional but also a very genuine, down-to-earth, funny, and talented person, and we were honoured to have him as part of our day. Thanks again, Vas.”
